[Beginner] top bar and Loggo (through web interface)

    Hi there,

I m using Windows Sharepoint services 2003 and I m obviously quite a beginner ... sorry about that.

My problem is that I could not find a way to change the loggo and to remove the top bar through the web interface.  (see red circles below). Is it that not possible ?

(I don t have Front page or Dreamweaver).

    Cheers

    Slumpy

    Hi Slumpy,

To replace the icon upload your new icon file to either a library on your site (or place it in c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\6.0\Template\Layouts on the server and access it as http://server/_layouts/myiconfile.gif)

Next choose Modify Shared Page -> Site Settings -> Title, Description and Icon and place the url to your new icon file.

Removing layout element like the top bar isn't supported through the standard web interface and customising the UI in 2003 is much harder than it is in 2007. If your dead-set you want to remove it then have a look at the queen of customisation - heather solomon's blogs - http://www.heathersolomon.com/blog/articles/sp2003.aspx although you will probably need frontpage to do this.
