Importing Active Directory User Profiles when using FBA Active Directory Membership Provider

    Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone knows how to import AD user profiles when the SharePoint site is using forms authentication with Active Directory Membership Provider. Tried using an Import Tool without success, so if anyone can give me guidance on how it is achieved, that would be great!

    Many thanks in advance,

    Peter

Maybe i'm missing your point but cant you just do a full profile import in the
SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration > your SSP >User Profiles and Properties
    > Start FullImport.

Re: Importing Active Directory User Profiles when using FBA Active Directory Membership Provider

    Hi Royce,

Thanks for your reply. The problem is when I use the membership provider - it assigns the account name as [membershipprovider]:[username], whereas AD import assigns the account name as [domain]\[username]. So just a normal AD import through SSP would not work.

    Hi Peter,

I'm trying to remember back to using Forms Authentication by following Dan Attis's excellent two part series articles.  I'm sure that the 2nd part talked about having the Shared Services extended over two web applications (one with the windows authentication policy and the other with forms).  I'm wondering if you could replicate this and try setting up the import in the windows authenticated shared service.  The links are:

    Hope this helps

    Dave

Re: Importing Active Directory User Profiles when using FBA Active Directory Membership Provider

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for your email. I've tried extending the SSP to be also forms, however it still did not allow me to import the profiles correctly. I've been trying with a Profile Importer Tool (http://www.codeplex.com/MOSSProfileImport), which did import the users with the correct Account names (e.g. [membershipprovider]:[username]), however I am still working out how to populate the required properties for the profile (I'm really just needing the department and name property).

If anyone has any experience with a profile import tool, and knows how to select which properties to populate from AD, please drop me a line:) or if there is any other way of doing this!

Many thanks for your help so far.

    Peter
