Hi All

I have a problem with Sharepoint that i cannot solve. Each time i try to open an Excel or Word document from Sharepoint, it tells me:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

This never used to happen and a few days ago I could open Word Documents but not Excel.

Is there any way to fix this?

Is it possible you have some mix of Office 2003 and 2007 components as described in this KB/Hotfix - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938888 ?

I've seen this a lot at client sites and this hotfix has fixed the problem.  Often it can be caused when the standard install is Office 2003 but they've also installed a single 2007 product like InfoPath, Visio, SharePoint Designer etc.

That may be the reason then

I do have sharepoint designer 2007 and visio while the rest of office is 2003.

I shall try the hotfix and hopefully it gets rid of the problem.
