    Unistalling Sharepoint

    Hello!

I would like to know what is the best way to uninstall Sharepoint?
This is because the first time i installed sharepoint was successful but after i've desinstall it; i couldn't install it anymore.
The installation in typical mode goes till the end and give the message "Service unavailalble" when i want to launch the administration page; in the advanced mode installation, i instead have the error message "cannot connect to the configuration database".

Can't anybody help me  going through this issue?
    Thx in advance.

PS: To uninstall Sharepoint, I've used add/remove programs in the configuration panel of windows

    Re: Unistalling Sharepoint

I'm going to assume that you are running MOSS 2007.

I'm not sure you can totally uninstall it. If I were you I think I would try to recover it via the Add/Remove Programs | highlite the SharePoint program and Choose Change then Repair.

This program will go through all of the steps of the original install. It will tell you if an install step fails to complete. Armed with the failure information you should be able to fix the problem.  If it gets through all of the Repair steps then you will need to run the Sharepoint Configuration Wizard.
I had to do this several times when I first worked with SP. Most of the problems I faced (and continue to face) are permission based problems.

If this fails, the same Change program will allow you to uninstall. But there will still be a ton of bodies lying around. If you can't fix it I'd rebuild the server from stratch.
    Hope this helps.

    Re: Unistalling Sharepoint

I once faced a similar issue and actually ended up running another installation on a separate server and monitoring the changes made by the install using regmon and filemon. Using the reports I then cleaned up the original server by removing the remaining files/folders and registry keys. Mind you, it's probably not an optimal solution - it was a mammoth task as it took me most of the day to trawl through the regmon/filemon logs and remove any left-over files/regkeys. I didn't have a choice though and in the end it did do the trick :)

If your installation goes through but you get the configuration database error you might want to scan your registry for the name of the database and remove all the references (e.g. on my server it's HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\Secure\ConfigDB\ ). Hopefully this should prompt the wizard to create a new database.

    Good luck

    Thx for your proposal.

I finally rebuild the server from scratch and everything is OK now.
