Creating public viewable areas in a sharepoint site

I am working on a learning gateway on which school have subsites which the pupils/teachers/parents access via their passwords.

If the schools want pages on this site to be publicly viewable for potential parents, would it be possible to do this from within Sharepoint?

Would it be possible to allow the schools to have some editing permissions in these pages as they would on the public domain part of the site?

If this is possible is it very complicated to set up, as it isn't currently part of our agreement with the company who have set up the Sharepoint site for us, so we would have to do it ourselves.

Thanks for any help you can give.

It is possible, but depending on your sharepoint knowledge among other things would effect how straightforward it will be to setup, ether way a bit of work and planning will be required and of course the correct licences ;)

What do you mean by correct licenses?

You will need the correct licences if you are going to make your Sharepoint site available to the internet I'm afraid :(
