I have written a console app which connects to the usergroups.asmx webservice. this is part of a processes to look for any obsolete user accounts. it works quite well. where it fails though has exposed a *feature* in our WSS portal!
the affected WSS sites list thousands of users which can be seen in /_layouts/1033/userinfo.aspx
if i goto manage users from userinfo most of the users are missing. so i cant delete these "ghosts"
i have tried stsadm and that doesnt help.
our WSS2.0 portal has been upgraded to Service Pack 3 in recent weeks.
