New Sharepoint User looking for help

I have just started working for an LEA helping them with school sites that are on a Sharepoint Server. My Sharepoint knowledge is minimal (have learnt it for 2 weeks since starting the job) and I also have no knowledge of Frontpage having  vowed not to learn it as its a Microsoft product!

    I am used to Dreamweaver.

I am finding it a struggle converting to the restraints I have using Sharepoint and would welcome anyone else who is creating sites for schools to give me some help and advice.

    Thanks

    Michelle

Its best to stick clear of Frontpage what ever IMHO, even Microsoft are ashamed of that one, though you new to sharepoint, i would recommend you take a look at Sharepoint designer for ease of amending the pages, You could use Dreamweaver to create new layouts etc, i'm sure (i've done this before in the past for Visual Studio), then just cut over your content to SPD.

I know it's not ideal, take a look at the express edition of Visual Stuio Web or Expression web (there free) and you will get some idea of SPD (which you would need to buy i'm afraid)

    Hi

I have got the free trial of Sharepoint Designer and it looked ok.  I haven't had a chance to use it much yet as I've been busy learning Sharepoint itself, plus I don't seem to have access to be able to upload templates or pages to the site so there is little point in using it. Hopefully this will change, but as I know little about the server set up, I am as a loss as to why I can't do it.

Work have ordered a copy of Sharepoint Designer for me so I will be using it in the future.  I will have Dreamweaver as well, so I was hoping that I could design things and copy them over if that was easier. But obviously it would be better to learn to use Sharepoint Designer more throughly so I don't' need to in the future.

    Michelle,

I recommend you spend a few hours/days looking through all of information Heather Soloman has posted on SharePoint customisation and branding.

If you want to learn SharePoint Designer you should as a first step purchase Penny Coventry's excellent Step-by-Step book.

If you get any specific problems or just want some guidance please post here,  we have some really good forum members.
