    Future Nottingham Meeting Ideas/Topics

Thanks to everyone who has attended the recent Nottingham meetings. These have been extremely beneficial and fun events, and we seem to have a good core of attendees.

At the last meeting we ran out of time to do Q&A on future topics for meetings.

Therefore I have set up this thread for you all to post your ideas/requests for future sessions (MOSS 2007 or SharePoint 2010), suggested alternative event formats etc.

Also, if any of you would like to speak at future events, please let me know as this is something I would like to encourage.

    Thanks

As a dev, any opinion I give will be biased towards code :P

But as a thought, maybe a good idea to give something on branding / themeing?

Also, what sort of level would the audience be at? Would we want a complete beginners guide? Or some more fancy stuff? Or new branding techniques for 2010?

I'd like to see a demo of the new SP2010 Identity Framework, showing how you could set up areas of an SP farm to be viewed by internal and external users with different authentication methods.

    In no particular order:

    >WSS/SPF - what's there for free.

    >Data View Webpart - IMO this deserves a session by itself. (nominate: Penny!).

    >Using SPD safely.

    >Upgrading from MOSS to SP2010.

    >Load Balencing and Kerberos!

    >Powershell!

There are a few ideas, and I haven't mentioned social computing at all ;)

I think it would also be good to schedule some open Q&A or panel lead discussion.

these are often of massive beneift to the attendees, I seem to remember doing one at Ullesthoirpe after SPC 2007 (??) and it went down very well.

    Agree on themeing and masterpages.

It was a shame to see Penny sat there without her presenting as I am always impressed by how easy she makes things look.

Hows about a proper install guide for 2010. Everyone mentioned setup of next next next being rubbish so hows about someone showing a "proper install" would this even be possible.

    Thanks

All very good stuff, and appreciate your comments so far.

FYI, Penny has already been secured for the next event in January, content yet to be defined. I will point her to this discussion.

    Re: Future Nottingham Meeting Ideas/Topics

I agree with all the above but also think maybe topology with particular reference to the new Shared Services replacing the SSPs. I appreciate that there is a lot of configurations possible depending on which particualr services you may use.

    Additionaly;

    Taxonomy and MetaData Management
    BCS
    Sharepoint Workspace

Also, slightly off track but Branch Cache in Server 2008 R2 . For anyone deploying over any sort of WAN Link this is a killer app with little cost/configuration!

SP 2010 Integration with SQL Reporting Services 2008 R2 - apparently much easier to set up now, something I will be testing over the next couple of weeks :)

Anybody think we might need to make the meetings more frequent to fit all these in?. :)

I would also like to see this demonstrated as it is an area that I am looking at to facilitate partnership and mobile working.

Also when is the next midlands meeting, and where?

    Hi Lesley

The next meetings will be in January, following the Christmas break. There are meetings in Nottingham and Birmingahm planned, and Im working with the Birmingham guys to make sure they arent too close together.

Thanks for your thoughts, and I look forward to seeing you at a future meeting!

    Re: Future Nottingham Meeting Ideas/Topics

I have just set up my own test for MOSS2010 on R2 along with PowerPivot. I saw a demo of this recently at a SQL Server conference and was most impressed and would certainly recommend it as a topic.

I can appreciate that experienced administrators might be sceptical of the new confiiguration wizard but to set up a test environment it was great.

    @MattBenson
I note you are also looking at MOSS2010 integration with R2 so perhaps we can share experiences? Maybe chat at the event in Jan?
