    Missing BDC Column filter option

    Hi,

Hopefully I have posted this into the appropriate forum, if not sorry and can someone tell me which one is more appropriate please?

I have several document libraries which contain a BDC column. In all of the existing libraries the BDC related columns (so not the BDC column itself but the ones which are automatically added based on the checkboxes you select when creating the BDC column) are rendered so there is a filter dropdown in the column header. This allows you to filter the contents of the column or sort the contents. So just to confrm this is the filter from the column header not the BDC filter option that is defined in the BDC definition.

Now, if I create a new library with a column based on the same BDC definition, none of the additional BDC columns have this filter. There just appear like a multi-line text field does - so a bit greyed out with no dropdown. This library is using the same BDC definition as the ones which work.

If I save the list which works as a template and then create a new list based on that then the filter menu is back again, even if I edit which fields are returned with the BDC column.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this because it is driving me insane :-)

    Thanks,
    Dave

Re: Missing BDC Column filter option

we have the same issue and we opened a case with Microsoft about this. unfortunately they reported this is by design because they have changed the secondary BDC string fields to multi-line text. unfortunately they don't seem to have realized that this breaks important functionality.

    see: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointbdc/thread/911c155a-32bb-4504-9292-6a604a0e1626

also, if you can it would help to open another case with Microsoft which maybe will help to convince them this needs to be resolved!

    thanks,
    jeroen
