IE Browser crashing when adding task or calendar entry in WSS3 site

When a user clicks "Add new Event" for a new calendar entry it is crashing Internet Explorer 6 (same happens for Announcements etc.,).

Access rights are fine and user is able to add files to shared documents library etc., its just the lists suchs as Calendar / Announcements and Tasks that are crashing IE.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Chris,

Does the user have any Office 2007 applications installed? This includes applications such as OneNote or Word.

If this is the case then this is the likely cause of the browser crashing as I have experienced similar behaviour when using a client machine accessing SharePoint. The 2007 applications affect some of the dlls behind the scenes causing IE to crahs when performing certain actions in SharePoint.

Unfortunately I could not find a solution to the IE crash, but one possible work around is getting the user to user Firefox as their browser accessing SharePoint. Firefox, as it does not use the same Microsoft dlls, will not crash hopefully.

    Hope this helps.

    That might be a help?

We've had problems that have been fixed by unregistering then reregistering the owssupp.dll

I posted a resolution to this type of problem a while ago.

Thanks everyone for your help on this. It is possible there is a mix of office products installed on this machine causing the issue. Firefox is a working alternative but not ideal as IE6 is the standard company browser. I will checkout Pauls post regarding this but thanks for everyones input, really appreciate your help.
