Hi,

I have a MOSS07 set up with a web application and a couple of site collections running. The Web Application is to be put on Internet. I did a security test using a certain tool. It shows a vulnerability saying, 'FrontPage related folders found. http://server:port/_vti_bin'. Recommends to remove Frontpage.

Some analyses done on Google, shows that SharePoint Designer is derived from Frontpage. So it was the designer that created vti_bin folder in the first place.

Now, is it OK, if I go ahead and delete _vti_bin folder directly or it is advisable not to touch this folder ?

You cannot delete this folder if you want your sharepoint system (amongst others) to function correctly.

Web and Application security is a complex issue best left to those who have deep insight and practical experience of such matters. If you're unsure about security and your systems vulnerability, my advice would be to get a consultant in to advise you of best practice for your organisation.
