E-Learning Editor released by Microsoft - LCDS

Remco Ploeg posted some great news to this forum post announcing the release of the Microsoft Learning Content Development System (LCDS).

I have done an initial post on this:- http://www.21apps.com/2008/05/microsoft-release-e-learning-editor.html

I welcome any posts, comments or problems people experience in using this Editor.

I have been testing it extensively tonight. The tool is really easy to use, sometimes quite rigid in its structure. And it works together very well with the SharePoint SLK.
I posted a little review and a screencast on http://www.mylearning.be/?p=85.

You most certainly can,  and lots of different types.

Download it and have a play,  i'm sure your'll be impressed.  I looks like to tool Micorosft used internally for their labs.

nice, I had play around with it, is it me or the user has to manually zip the 'Course' folder before uploading it?

    Yes you are correct...

Would have been really useful to have a Save As option.

Re: E-Learning Editor released by Microsoft - LCDS

The packaging of the file into a zip file is the only thing that is stopping me from implementing it at my school.

Hope there will be an update soon.

This looks really good and will be very useful for my organisation. Thanks for the heads up.

Andrew, in your blog post you mentioned that this is a "Community Edition". What does that mean?

    Cheers, Ste.

That was more a question to Microsoft, as I am unaware if they have any plans for a commerical release.

I am currently using this tool and would like to know from existing users how do you actually get this content onto your sharepoint server to view it in MOSS?

Sharepoint Learning Kit would be the answer, however I tried with it and it doesnt seem to work; it might be because the SCORM packages are developed in English US...

    Hi Alex,

Have you any experience of using Courselab?  I have been looking at this alongside LCDS.  Not sure yet which way to go.  Courselab is good, but was slow (unless it is at my end), and allows publication in a number of different formats, including SCORM 1.2 & 2004.

Would be interested to hear how people think it stacks up....

Not played with it yet - going to be going through a large VLE evaluation in September for my school - looking at using 2 or 3 VLEs because of the nature of the school.

The new SLK comes out the end of this month.  Was at MS the other week and they announced it would be out on the 30th June!

What exactly does the new version have over the existing one?  Is this to include a drop box, or markbook?
