    SP2003 development training pre-requisites.

I'm soon to arrange training in SP2003 developement for myself and a colleague
I'm from a mainframe background, he is from a hardware background.

We both have a very rudimentery understanding of HTML and VB6 and know sod all about .NET and ASP. In fact there is no knowledge within our I.T. department at all in these subjects.

Can any member please advise as to what level we require knowledge on the above emboldened subjects to enable us to get through the basic essential of WSS 3.0 development.

We have SPD 2007 and are ordering VS 2008 if these tools make any difference.

    In anticipation...

    Glenn.

Hi Glenn and welcome, firstly i'd recommend getting upto speed on .Net development using either C# or Visual Basic, before taking the leap into Sharepoint development (which is just using one of the languages mentioned and understanding the Sharepoint Object models, the object models part will make sense once you get into messing about with Visual Studio.

There are a number of add-ons (free ones :) ) for Visual studio that will be useful, WSPBuilder, STSDev and the Visual Studio Extensions for Sharepoint. again the use of these will become clear after a little reading, etc (and of course i'm sure theres help to be found on here.)

Plenty of resources out there too, i recommend www.asp.net and the Microsoft Developers Network for starters :)
