    SharePoint Training Recommendations

Any recommendations on what training those new to SharePoint should take? What about the context in which the newcomer could be approaching SharePoint:

    • Project Manager
    • Project Sponsor
    • Developer
    • Administrator

Would your recommendations change for the different needs of the newcomer?

    Regards.

From the development and administration point of things, you won't go far wrong with Combined Knowledge's offering of courses.

Another option for Development and Training, Firebrand offer a great dual course. Might be a bit intensive if they do not have previous development experience.

We used Gary Yeomans a few times at Derby City Council. His value for money and expert knowledge would be difficult to beat.

    Re: SharePoint Training Recommendations

I just completed the Firebrand course this week, and came away with 2x MCTS certifications for WSS and MOSS2007. That was for the configuration course - they do a separate Development course which is another week and another 2x MCTS's.

Very pleased with Firebrands course delivery. It got me thru the certifications no problem and I'm happy to recommend them as a training provider. Cost includes room and food for the whole week. Very well organised.

Note: Those afraid of working long hours need not apply. I parked my suitcase in my room and wandered over to the introductory tour Sunday evening, and they crammed in a couple of hours tuition for starters. Then spent Mon-Thu doing 12 hour days. Hard work but well worth it when I walked away with the certifications.

Although I haven't yet done the developers course my recommendation would be for anyone new to Sharepoint to do the configuration course first, otherwise you will most likely lose something from the developers course as you grapple with configuration issues. The instructor did comment that they have had people go straight to the developers course and invariably it is a hard slog.

As of this morning I have my certification for 70-631 and 70-630.

    Re: SharePoint Training Recommendations

    Hi MatthewB,

If you are new to SharePoint, then the SharePoint administrator level courses would be suitable for you.  As you get the experience, and if your interest peaks further, then you can get trained for the developer courses.

As KazMaz mentioned, we offer two kinds of SharePoint Training courses suitable for SharePoint administrators and developers.  Both of which are at a MCTS level:

Both these courses are for 5 days and on the 5th day we teach you the respective SharePoint 2010 modules.  We guarantee that this modules will help you pass any future MCTS SharePoint 2010 exams that come out later this year, otherwise you can come back and train with us for free.

    Hope this helps

Firebrand Training will guarantee your MCTS SharePoint Certification or you can train again for free. Get certified in 5 days!

    Re: SharePoint Training Recommendations

Thanks for the tips everyone, I'll look into these further.

I'm project managing the upgrade of our current ropey installation of WSS2.0, and am looking for general info that I can use to scope and initiate the project. I think the Configuration course may provide me with a lot of best practice guidelines.

    Regards.
