    Newcastle - Wednesday 20th January 2010

    Newcastle Wednesday 20th January 2010 (6:00 pm - 9:30'ish)
    =====================

This is turning into a very interesting session and SUGUK North East for their first event of 2010 are partnering with North East Bytes for a superb Launch Event,

Between us we have three sessions scheduled and should be the first of many great events scheduled for 2010. We are very pleased to welcome Mike Taulty (hosting a session on Silverlight) and James O'Neill (hosting a session on Hyper-V) who are both from Microsoft UK's Developer and Platform Evangelism Team. We also welcome MVP Steve Smith back to Newcastle who will be covering the Highlights and Features of Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2010, the initial session of this thread.

The event starts at 6pm sharp in Room G11 of the Percy Building at Newcastle University.

    Session 1

SUGUK: Highlights and Features of Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2010 - MVP Steve Smith

Steve will add his own insight to a well balanced presentation on the replacement for the product we have all come to know, specifically highlighting the new metadata management model and the new records management and records routing features of 2010, the Ribbon, Office integration, migration options, architecture and new facets of the product likely to keep you employed well into the next few years. The session will be an open forum to allow participants to ask questions as the session progresses.

    Session 2

James O'Neill from Microsoft's UK IT Pro Evangelism Team will cover the Hyper-V virtualisation technology, including the improvements in the new version of Hyper-V that launched with Windows Server 2008 R2, and management of your virtual infrastructure with System Center Virtual Machine Manager and Windows PowerShell.

    Session 3

Silverlight - 2 Years, 4 Versions, Where are We? - Mike Taulty

Silverlight LogoSilverlight is Microsoft's UX Technology for rich internet applications and its development is moving at internet-speed with 4 versions coming out in different forms over just 2 years. In this session, we'll talk about Silverlight from version 1 to version 4 with a focus on the currently released Silverlight 3 and also a look at Silverlight 4 which is in beta. We'll look at various aspects from the core capabilities of the framework through to where the tooling has got to as it progresses towards Visual Studio 2010.

The venue holds 96 people, so to track numbers can you please sign up for the event and obtain more information about the event at the following URL:

    Re: Newcastle - Thursday 28th January 2010

That's a good start to the New Year John.

As you'd expect, I'll be there. It will be good to follow up on this as I had a few unanswered questions from the last session with Steve in London.

If anyone hasn't heard Steve speak before, he is very credible in the SharePoint field and an engaging (and entertaining) presenter. If you work with SharePoint 2007, or are even just thinking of adopting SharePoint 2010, this is a must see event. No pressure to live up to there Steve!

Is there any chance we can reuse the room we've used before at BT Innovation Place - Metrocentre? I heard a vicious rumour (not confirmed) that they were shipping people out of that building and looking to close it at my five-a-side Christmas doo. Gateshead Education also have a Training place near there, not sure if that would be free (My Sister may have a contact for that if you want).

    Merry Xmas
    Brian

If you can't explain it in English, it's not a valid process....

I'd like to attend the meeting, if you are struggling for a venue let me know as we at TSG may be able to provide a venue at our offices on Team Valley.

    Re: Newcastle - Wednesday 20th January 2010

Sounds like an offer too good to refuse..thanks.

We have had a change of date as Steve (presenting) can only do Wednesday January 20th, so if you can do the venue for that I'll get the posting altered.

    Regards

    I'll be there!

Tonaldo, any chance you could use your Gosforth office? I'd just need to walk across the carpark then :)

Shame on the rumours about Innovation Place worked there for a few years and have fond memories.

    Re: Newcastle - Wednesday 20th January 2010

Can I please ask anyone who has registered in the forum to also register on the eventbrite system please? We have a limit on the room size (albeit 98 :)) and it will help to keep any eye on numbers.

Looking forward to the event, it's going to be great!

    Re: Newcastle - Wednesday 20th January 2010

We  were going to use Innovation Place before the kind offer of space from Tonaldo, as it was looking difficult to book given its up for sale.  As we now have a much bigger event, and the uni location was already arranged it made sense to share - especially as the pizza is paid for (thanks Andy).

We'll definately take Tonaldo's offer up for the next event.
