I'll be traveling up by train and staying overnight...

Can anyone tell me which train station to get off at and any decent hotels in the area?

    thanks in advance

Where are you travelling from?  You'll need to get to Newcastle Station, then take a train to the Metro Centre, it's a short walk/taxi ride from there.

As regards hotels, there is a Travel Lodge and Holiday Inn close by, alternatively you could stay in Newcastle City centre, can't really recommend any particular hotels, someone else might be able to suggest one.

The details for the Travel Lodge and Holiday Inn are:

    Cheers

Re: Newcastle User Group meeting - 10th September

If you get the train or the bus from central station to the metro centre, the BT building is next to the train station/bus station opposite the coach park.  Its about 100 yards to the building but you'll need to walk round it to find the entrance - so about 300 yards.  A taxi from Newcastle station will problably cost you a tenner.

The Jury Inn is not a bad hotel and is near the Central Station - or for cheaper, the travel lodge on the quayside is Ok but a bit of a walk.  Most of the city centre hotels are OK including the station hotel itself.
