Re vendors, recently read a post from Muhimbi who have a couple of interesting products in PDF converter and SharePoint Audit. Also Link Software in Sheffield have some mailmerge web parts plus vertical solutions based on SharePoint which might be of interest. And both are UK companies!

The SharePoint Audit item could be good. It is estimated that Compliance will be the biggest growth area for IT over the next 3-5 years, and I'm always being asked about SharePoint audit for SOx (Sarbanes-Oxley).
