Are you encountering many queries related to SharePoint 2010?

In the upcoming months SharePoint 2010 is set to be released (Q3 of this year I believe). Are you finding that your clients/IT managers are registering an interest in upgradeability or even commisioning work in preperation of the release?

I'm interested in why you are asking the qustion, not that information on the next version could be released anyway.  Most companies who are not on the TAP (and that's most companies) could not even get access to beta information until July and its a private beta.

Are you finding that questions are cropping up?  I have lots of clients who ask this and the answer is always the same - sorry but thats under NDA!  So commisioning any work in advance of any release would probably only revolve around removing customisations and ensuring that your infrastructure was migrating to 64bit and windows 2008 support.

    Hello John,

The reason I'm asking this is to try and anticipate how popular the new version is likely to be. I appreciate any new SharePoint technology will be strictly administered under NDA, however I find it strange how quiet things are.

Early indications from the Microsoft blog that I have picked up, have pointed in the way of infrastrucutre migrations as you mention.

I am a SharePoint recruiter and unlike most want to be directly reactive to the market I work in. Over the last 2.5 years the trend has been to promote ADC's or straight .NET developers and turn them into consultants.

I have always had huge interest from infrastructure consultants looking to be more involved in SharePoint consultancy in the way Gold Patners operate and would be happy to see them get a fair go.

The type of project you describe could indicate a short term boom in demand for these type of people and so I would still value finding out about them.

I think if you have access to the alpha your in a privileged position and few people will jeopardise that by seeping information, hence why its so quiet.  It is really still quite early days still.

Its safe to say there is a lot of interest and a lack of public info, many people are asking about whats in the next release and how it might be different, so I guess they are preparing given the opportunity to be early adopters.  There will always be work with any new release for devs to decouple custom code, and removing third party elements that are replaced with new features OTB.

MOSS is a universe, few people can do it all!  Even in the current market, infrastructure consultants who know MOSS as very rare, especially with credible virtualisation and SAN experience. Can't see that changing, but demand for staff who know how to upgrade will be prime - architects with good 2007 experience who can also target 2010 will be in a very strong position - but thats only my own view!

    Regards

    John
