    Hi guys,

    Trying to figure out the exact details of what this app pool does and what kind of service account it should be using?
    I have some information so far, but very little can be found about this and I am trying to figure out the real deal, exact role and security requirements in both 1 tier and multi-tier environment.

    This application pool hosts the Office Server Web Services Web Application and is used for the search web service interfaces and the excel calculation services web services.

    You should run this application pool as a domain account especially if you want to use kerberos authentication for the SSP services and any off box communication with excel calculation.
