    Home setup

    Hi,

I want to setup MOSS 2007 at home, I have 3 old machines:

    1, very old server (Pentium3) 256MB
    2, a PC, Pentium 4, 1GB Ram
    3, a PC, Pentium 4, 2GB Ram

I want to replicate a typical corporate setup, like the one we had at Capgemini (inTelford). Can someone point me in the right direction please.

I have SQL Server 2000 Enterprise and MOSS 2007 software.

I also have a decent spec' laptop running Vista, am i better off runing a few instances of Virtual Server on the laptop?

    Many thanks,
    Idris.

    Re: Home setup

    Hi,

Unfortunately, I don't think any of these machines will cut it to be honest.

Machine 1 is a no go, machine 2 will have no memory available once the operating system is install.

Machine 3, you may get something up and running. I have an inspiron 9400 laptop with 2Gb, I set up a Virtual Server on this and installed MOSS 2007 as stand-alone. It's ok for basic development and testing, but nothing more really. The hardware just isn't upto it.

In all fairness, with that kind of set up you probably will replicate some of the corporate disasters I've seen in the past :P

    Re: Home setup

Hi, I'd go for the laptop option, my laptop has 3 VM's for running a farm , 2WFE + Application server but no SQL on there, but runs no problem although I do have 8GB Ram.
