New SharePoint in UK Schools Blog

This Blog will hopefully assist many education organisations in their use of SharePoint during 2009. Whether your school is using SharePoint already, you are considering SharePoint or just want to know what SharePoint is we hope you will find the answer here.

The SharePoint in UK Schools blog is as the title says aimed at Schools in the UK but we don't really mind who reads it and we hope it will become a valuable information source.

The address is http://sharepointschools.blogspot.com and although it will be hosted by Officetalk we are aiming to have a number of guests writers from the Educaton sector involved.

It is a shame that it has only 1 post since it was created!

Those of us in involved in the education sharepoint arena already have a number of blogs and sites that we use. The majority of us know each other. We also tend to be educationalists or based in education who moved in to sharepoint. In my case since 2004. When I started there were no courses and a couple of books on 2003. Some of the work done in this area is pretty impressive. I've added a few but could have added another 20. I hope this explains why there was only one post now 2.

just starting out with MOSS 2007 for Kingsdown School in Swindon. Main driver is to support parent access to reports using Capita's SIMs Learning Gateway webparts but looking to use MOSS for the Intranet and website.

I've been picking up hints and tips from Edugeek and LinkedIn, the Andrew Connell and Heather Solomon blogs as well as Microsoft. It's certainly a challenge getting up to speed with MOSS.

Hi Johnny......can I suggest it might be worth your while looking at our site - http://www.the-kraal.com

It has a gallery of screenshots from schools using SharePoint portals, and an e-book featuring a case study designing a SharePoint portal for our school.  A lot of information which we would have liked to have available when we were looking at implementing SharePoint in our school.

BTW any school out there with a SharePoint system who would like to be featured on the gallery on The Kraal - please get in touch!

Re: New SharePoint in UK Schools Blog

Yes this really didn't take off as I had hoped. The reason I think is because SharePoint in Education is actually no different to SharePoint in any organisation. I personally write a weekly SharePoint blog called http://aboutsharepoint.com and I think many of the things covered in these blogs are relevant to schools.

I will however endeavour to right a number of posts in SharePoint School blog over the coming weeks and would welcome any suggestions.

In the last month alone Office Talk have worked with five different Schools and Education Authorities on their SharePoint Projects.
