Hello..

My NHS Trust has a few bits and bobs of jobs on Sharepoint that are beyond my limited ability.

For instance: We need to electronically replicate a form where a user submits their weekly timesheet of hours worked, each day may need to be confirmed by a different manager, after which the form as a whole needs confirming by a service manager before it's passed to our wages department for payment based on hours worked, and also kept in an archive for reference.

It might sound fairly straightforwards stuff but to me it's a headache and so I'd need to employ a specialist to come in and do the job.  We have a couple of other similar jobs.

I need to get a handle on roughly how long would a job like the one described above take to get done and how much it's likely to cost...  and can anyone recommend any contacts who could do this work? (we're based in Lancashire)

We are currently engaged in the NHS arena with a number of Trusts and specialise in document imaging, document management and workflow for a variety of applications including SharePoint 2007. Based on your description, we have two options for implementing this in MOSS:

1. We create a multi level custom workflow to perform approvals. This needs further investigation to assess the level of development effort according to the complexity of the workflow but is probably 7-8 days.

2. We can create time sheet entry as a task and assign to a manager for approval. After the approval, each task will go to the service manager for his/her approval. This option is not as flexible since we would have to use the in-built approval workflow in SharePoint. We estimate about 4-5 days.

Have you considered CorasWorks or any other vendors who may be able to supply with the functionality you desire?  Although you don't get a custom solution; their off the shelf packages may satisfy most of your requirements and given the cost challenge its always worth considering.  Looks like you're after InfoPath and workflows features.

I have not personally used them but when I was looking at cutting down development effort they came across as industry leaders.

As with any development activity - it's almost impossible to predict how long an activity would take and how pro-active the developer resources is with getting on with task.  Therefore, if dealing with a supplier directly get a fixed price quote and not time and materials.
